Jose E. de la Gandara MD

José E. de la Gándara MD

Medical Director and Principal Investigator

Dr. de la Gándara is a Licensed Physician practicing as an adult and geriatric psychiatrist in the State of Florida for over 30 years. He did his Internship and trained at the University of Florida Shads Teaching Hospital Department of Psychiatry and at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital Department of Psychiatry Training program. He served as Chief Resident in his last year and completed a Fellowship in Psychopharmacology at the Clinical Research Division of the Department under Dr. Burton Goldstein and Dr. Roberto Dominguez. He served as Associate Clinical Research Professor conducting trials with the Division for several years.


Dr. de la Gándara is in Private Practice with offices in West Palm Beach and Pompano Beach Florida. He served as Neuropsychiatric Consultant and Director of Clinical Research at the Memory Disorder Center at Broward Health North Hospital for over 30 years and he directs and serves as Principal Investigator for the Quantum Laboratories Central Nervous System (CNS) Clinical Research program located in Pompano Beach Florida. He has been conducting Clinical Research Trials for various CNS indications including Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), Alzheimer’s disease, Vascular Dementia (Multi Infarct Dementia), Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, and other behavioral and neuropsychiatric disorders for over 30 years. 

Angela Pedraza

Angela Pedraza MD

Associate Medical Director and Co-Principal Investigator

Dr. Pedraza is a Licensed Physician practicing in the State of Florida, as an Adult and Geriatric Psychiatrist for over 30 years. She did her Internship and Residency Training at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital Department of Psychiatry and completed a Fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry under Dr. Carl Eisdorfer and Dr. Rajan Duara at Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach.


Dr. Pedraza is in Private Practice with offices in West Palm Beach and Pompano Beach Florida. She served as Assistant Director of the Memory Disorder Center at Broward Health North Hospital for over 30 years and currently serves as Principal Investigator and Sub Investigator for the Quantum Laboratories Central Nervous Systems (CNS) Clinical Research program located in Pompano Beach Florida. She has conducted many Clinical Research Trials through the years for various CNS related indications, including Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), Alzheimer’s Disease, Vascular Dementia (Multi Infarct Dementia), Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, and other behavioral and neuropsychiatric disorders. 

Karen Herr

Myra Canizares, ANRP, FNP-BC

Sub-Investigator

Myra Canizares is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse at Quantum Laboratories. Myra brings a 13 year record of success in nursing and clinical expertise, her background in emergency medicine as well as out-patient settings has provided a broad knowledge base of disease states and their evolution. In her current position, Myra assists the Principal Investigator in performing physical assessments and is able to provide services and both English and Spanish.

Margaret Ann Medley

Karen Herr, MSN, RN

Senior Lead Study Coordinator, Sub-Investigator

Karen Herr is a Registered Nurse and Senior Study Coordinator with 30 years of experience in clinical research. Karen has a wide ranging background working in research trials at different phases across several specialties. She began her nursing career in 1977 when she graduated from Syracuse University. Karen leads the daily operations at Quantum Laboratories and ensures that all clinical trials run smoothly. She has been a cornerstone at Quantum Laboratories and has been with the company for over 15 years.

Ellen Jaucian, BS, RN Study Coordinator

Ellen Jaucian, BS, RN

Study Coordinator

Ellen Jaucian holds a BSN in nursing and is a Registered Nurse and Junior Study Coordinator. Ellen joined the team at Quantum Laboratories in March 2016 with 18 years of clinical nursing experience across different age groups. She was previously involved in clinical trials doing therapeutic apheresis and donor apheresis for vaccine development. In her current position, Ellen assists the senior study coordinator, maintains regulatory documents, is a designated un-blinded pharmacist, and an infusion nurse. 

Shelly Greenberg, RN Rater/Psychometrician

Shelly Greenberg, RN

Rater, Psychometrician

Shelly Greenberg is a Registered Nurse and a clinical rater at Quantum Laboratories. Shelly has been in the field for over 30 years. Shelly has an extensive background working with older adults affected by Alzheimer’s disease. She developed an educational program for caregivers, facilitated support groups, and provided resources in the community about memory disorders. Shelly played an integral role in helping the startup of the Memory Disorder Center at Broward Health North. She has been working with Quantum Laboratories since 1994. 

Karen Herr

Ashley Freiman, Psy.D.

Lead Clinical Rater, Sub-Investigator

Dr. Ashley Freiman is the Lead Clinical Rater and a Sub-Investigator for research trials at Quantum Laboratories. She has an extensive background in testing for CNS clinical trials. Ashley graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Central Florida and then went on to earn her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from Albizu University. She has over a decade of experience and has worked in a variety of settings including research, private practice, major university hospitals, and community mental health centers.

Margaret Ann Medley

Maria Tate, Ph.D.

Clinical Rater, Sub-Investigator

Dr. Maria Tate is a clinical rater and sub-investigator of different study trials at Quantum Laboratories Inc. She earned a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University and has over 10 years of experience in the assessment and treatment of different psychological disorders. She also has experience designing and conducting psychological research and published peer-reviewed studies relating to cognitive psychology. She is fluent in Spanish and English.
